Many years ago I had a vision that I was a zen monk living by the side of a river. Sometimes the river would run fast and hard, other times it would slow down and take its time. Travelers would take the river upstream and down, different boats and other floating devices would come and go. I would sit on the side of the river and put my feet in the water, saying nothing for long periods of time. Sometimes I would stand and do exercises, or I'd help a traveler or a family get on board their boat or help them get unstuck from the vines and roots in the water, and see them on their way to who knows where? This vision, in reality, has actually materialized in my real-time and present-day life. I actually live next to a creek that fills up in the rainy season. I watch people come and go and sometimes I interact with them...... like making comments on a blog. I don't try to get involved in their affairs, and neither do I ignore their concerns. Even in great activity and confusion spinning all around me, I remain at the center with my river and all its wisdom.
