Spirituality and politics?
Recently, I received an email from a reader of my publication New Spirit Journal. She had read my most recent column Wednesday Inspiration. This is an email I send out to my email list on Wednesdays - thus, the name (you can sign up here.). The topic was Transgender people and my position that we should be supportive of these folks as well as other people who might be outside what the mainstream society deems acceptable/normal.
She would quit reading
She said she would quit reading my articles if I didn’t stay away from politics. I told her I couldn’t promise I would do that and I didn’t consider this a political issue as much as I did a social one. And, I went on, I believe people on the spiritual path need to be involved in politics, that these two things belong together. In fact, I think this is one of the reasons, I wrote, that we have the split in our society we do right now. I believe people on a conscious spiritual path need to speak up more, not less.
What do you think?
What’s your position? The fact that you’re reading this tells me you are interested (or at least tolerant of) the intersection of spirituality and social issues. If you wish, please tell me what you think below…..
Love and blessings,
Krysta
I agree with you Krysta that as stewards of our planet and our fellow humans we should hold public servants to a higher standard as we would hold ourselves accountable to each other and our planet. Behavior among us, especially politicians has a rippling effect on our society and the moral fabric we try to instill in our children. To honor our planet, our environment and our moral compass and to accept others that are different from ourselves makes for a much nicer place to live! Keep up the good work and don't stop spreading the kindnesses that you represent!!
