The total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024 was a landmark day. Across the United States, we saw people gathering in large and small groups to witness this astronomical event. Some large sports arenas were almost full while in some areas people gathered in parks to witness the event. Some even timed their weddings to coincide with the eclipse. Various television stations covered the event live so it was easy to see how excited people were.
This was not the first eclipse we’ve had, not by a long shot. It isn’t even the first time the course of the sun and moon ran across the United States. It seems to me that people intuitively felt this to be a big deal. Here was the sun shining brightly and then the moon covers him so much that some areas grew very dark only to have the light return as the moon moved past the sun. The crowds became very quiet during the dark phase and then erupted into applause and shouting when the sun returned.
I saw the symbolism to what occurred and felt happy. As a group, people were able to witness what we see transpiring on our planet right now. Darkness has tried, and continues to try, to block the light and goodness that we know is there. Darkness never wins. It is eventually moved away and the light returns. This is exactly what is happening right now and people feel it.
In some places the crowds cheered and yelled during the event. It gave me goosebumps. To have large groups as well as live television coverage concurrent with the actual event showed us not only what’s possible but what is actually happening right now.
The message is for us to remember that evil is only allowed to exist for a short period of time. When we feel discouraged and think evil is winning, remember the eclipse. Remember how the stunning light of the sun returned in all its glory and beauty. So it did on April 8, 2024 and now we get to watch this play out in the events taking place in the world today. I find it very encouraging and exciting. Stay tuned!

great analogy Krysta & I hadn't thought of it like that!
As I watched the eclipse in a park with many people, I saw that people truly can come together, be awed, and be joyful in a time when we let politics and theology do otherwise.
