Can you walk into a room and lose your good cheer because you feel a heavy energy in the room? Can you start your day feeling grand and then as soon as you get to work, you feel sad? Maybe you’re more sensitive than you think.
With everything going on on the world today, it’s easy to go from happy to worried quickly. It doesn’t have to be this way. No matter how sensitive to energy you might be, you don’t have to be at the mercy of other people or situations.
Some people are really good at picking up the “vibes” wherever they go. This can be a blessing when you know you’re doing it and you know what to do with the energies you pick up. It can be a curse if you don’t realize it’s happening or what to do about it.
The most important thing we can do right now is learn how to stay centered as much as possible. How do we do this? Spending time in meditation every day helps us know what it feels like to be centered. Once you’re grounded in a solid meditation practice and can attain the feeling at will, you’ll find yourself able to feel the various energies around you without being pulled into them.
If you do walk into a situation where there is sadness or unrest, you’ll be able to stay in your center or return to it quickly should you be pulled away. You’ll be able to emanate a peacefulness that will help to balance the energies around you. I’d say this is something well worth developing, wouldn’t you?

I asked a friend of mine who claimed to be an empath, if her "hyper-spiritual sensitivity" causes her to be, let's say, mentally disabled because of "picking up" negative vibrations and it makes her unable to be of service to the world she lives in, then what good is it?! We have the opportunity to bring order and coherence (and, yes, CALM!) into every space we put ourselves. To me, being "sensitive" doesn't mean being AT THE EFFECT of whatever's going on around me. It means "getting" what's needed and wanted and contributing what I can. It might simply be listening and that's not always as simple as it sounds. I also know people and places to stay far away from. "....you gots to know your limitations." (Dirty Harry)
I've been sensitive for as long as I can remember. Over the years I've gotten stronger and learned control. There are times when I'm not as focused as I should be and it can take a bit for me to re-center but I always do. My hobbies are my meditation. My focus leaves me feeling calm and relaxed. Even a day of target practice leaves me relaxed yet energized. Maybe it's because I don't feel the need to have things "snapped" back into place after that. Not sure. But my body feels great and my mind feels super sharp. Still sensitive? Yup. Very much so.
Great read, Krysta. Thank you!
