Bird TV?
As many of you know, I get up early in the morning. I haven’t used an alarm for many years unless I’m headed to the airport which is rare. Some part of me knows when I’m done sleeping and I just wake up. Rhonda gets up a few hours after I do.
This morning when she came into the living room-kitchen area, she immediately picked up one of our clickers. The next thing I knew, the television was on. This was odd. We don’t watch television in the morning. She was navigating to YouTube. I kept watching. The next thing I knew, there was a live stream of a bird feeder. I knew it couldn’t be local because there was snow in the background.
It was the live stream of a bird feeder by Cornell University. These are the same people who have the Merlin app I told you about a few weeks ago, an app that identifies birds in your area by recording their sounds. We spent the next 15 minutes watching this bird feeder and hoping a cardinal would show up. It didn’t.
However, we were treated to some beautiful jays, a wood-pecker and some starlings. We could see the details of their feathers and markings so clearly. We found ourselves whispering and then realized the birds couldn’t hear or see us and laughed at ourselves.
The past few hours, I’ve been working at my computer with delightful bird songs coming from the television. Then a few minutes ago, Rhonda was in front of the television again and suddenly I saw an entirely different array of birds. This live stream is also by Cornell University but it’s in Ontario, Canada.
I continue to be amazed at what can happen when technology is used for good!
Moving through life with grace and ease,
Krysta
