If you are like most of us, you have a certain way of doing things in your home and in your working life. You have a routine. This is a good thing because it brings stability to your life. You can count on certain things being a certain way. However, if you’d like to loosen up some new perspectives or just have some fun, try this!
Shake everything up by doing things differently. Don’t follow your usual schedule. Mix things up. If you usually do your laundry or bookkeeping on the weekend, do it first thing Monday morning. If you call your mother every Wednesday evening, call her on Tuesday instead.
Change your approach to your day. Drive to work a different way or leave at a different time. Take the bus or, if you can, ride your bike to work. If you usually drink coffee, try tea. Use Firefox as your internet server instead of Safari. Brush your hair with your non-dominant hand.
And to really shake things up, change your personality for a day. If you are usually outgoing and confident, be really quiet and unassuming for a day. And if you are a naturally subdued personality, ham it up and be more assertive and outgoing. If you are fairly humorless, watch some I Love Lucy reruns. Memorize some jokes to share with others. If you are a natural clown, put on Dr. Zhivago.
Do this because it is fun, yes. But even more, do it because it will shake you up inside and you might find yourself coming up with solutions to your challenges or dilemmas and a new way of viewing your life. Get out of your ruts and discover what new doors of understanding and opportunity open for you. If nothing else, you’ll have the people in your life wondering what’s going on with you. Perhaps you’ll have some great conversations!
