The last few days have been a blur and we landed in our new home yesterday - sort of. What a journey. You have heard the horror stories about movers who take advantage of people, overcharge, and some who even stole their customer’s belongings. Because so many people are moving right now, most movers are booking at least six weeks out and that’s what we had to do. What a nail biter that was since six week ago we weren’t sure what home we would be in or when. We rented a storage unit just in case, booked the movers, and barely squeaked by with our home being available yesterday.
The company we hired is called Cascade Moving and Storage and they could not have been better. Eric, the owner, has been moving people since the 1970’s and came out personally to give us the bid. Three wonderful men packed our stuff and loaded the truck last Wednesday. The driver called Monday morning and said he would be at the house at 8 AM. Uh-oh. We wouldn’t be there until noon or later. No problem, he said. Our fabulous realtor, Della Davis, said she would meet him there. At ten o’clock he called me and said they were done but would wait for us. We were scheduled to be there by noon or noon-thirty.
Over the next few hours as we drove to get to the house, the mover called a few times and he asked if we wanted them to take our clothes out of the wardrobe boxes and hang them up. Sure, I said. When we arrived, the three fellows walked with us from room to room to be sure everything was where we wanted it to be. We only needed them to move one thing! Not only were they amazing at their job, they were polite and friendly and respectful of our things. If you’re in the Seattle area and need a mover, do yourself a favor and check them out. The drive from the Seattle area to Phoenix was filled with amazing scenery from farmland and various trees and cacti to interesting rock formations. I’m looking forward to learning more about my new environment, especially the rocks.
We spent last night with Rhonda’s mom who fixed us a delightful dinner last evening. Soon, we’ll go back to our new home and begin the unpacking process, getting our office area organized, and helping Pearl the corgi learn which door takes her outside. She is a great travel dog and has adjusted to the various changes we’ve presented to her.
By the way, I love using the term “grace and ease” in living my life and I aspire to this daily. It just feels like such a delightful way to live and is the reason I named this newsletter Moving with Grace and Ease. Recently, I heard someone say what ease meant to her was living in the state of allowing. I love this. Instead of fighting what life gives us, we embrace everything, allowing life to unfold in all its beauty, challenge, and delight. This is what I’ll do as I rediscover what’s in all those boxes waiting to be opened. It will be magical, I’m sure!
In grace and ease,
Krysta
