Frequently, I hear people say they wish they had some friends who believe as they do, friends they could hang out with and feel mutual support. Here is some good news. There are 22 new friends waiting for you in the major arcana of the tarot! Gotcha, didn’t I?
Seriously, the archetypes we call the major arcana of the tarot are very real energies you can learn to spend time with, dialogue with, and learn from. Here’s how.
Get a tarot deck you resonate with. There are many to choose from. If you are like most people who learn the tarot, you will end up with several decks, so don’t think your first deck is your last! Now, separate out the major arcana cards – that would be the first 22 cards in the deck beginning with one called the Fool and ending with the one called The World. Shuffle those 22 cards. Now, ask what energy could you befriend right now that will best support you on your path. Choose one card at random or choose the one that feels warm to you, or the one that seems to glow.
Set the card in front of you and just look at it for a few minutes. What sort of ideas and images does it bring up for you? Does it offer any sort of special meaning or message to you? If you are new to tarot, take out the book or booklet that came with the deck and read about the meaning of this particular card. Usually, the meaning is very obvious.
Pull out your journal and write down your impressions. Now think about how you can embody that energy in your life right now. And think about what image in the card you can carry with you this day, an image that will remind you of this new friendly energy. At the end of the day, write down some of the things that happened that related to this tarot card.
Do this every day and you will be on your way to making friends with the major arcana. These energies will never abandon you or criticize you. They will help you live a happier and more meaningful life! I can’t think of a better friend than that!
Living in grace and ease,
Krysta
Your post led me, in a round about way, to pull the card, the Ace of Cups. I had last night's dream on my mind and this tarot card put much light on its interpretation. The traditional concept of cards being upright or reversed is a binary view that doesn't often explore the integration of opposites or the co-existence of energies. The letter on the card is both M --- AND it's a W. It's both manifestation AND transformation simultaneously. Thanks for your post on the subject of tarot cards!
