With all the changes we’re seeing in the world and in our lives, is it a surprise that I am also making changes?
I’ve been writing monthly inspirational emails since the mid 1980’s and weekly ones for the past five years. It feels like I’ve covered every imaginable topic and some I didn’t imagine. Here’s the change: I’m going to focus on the topic of creativity and here’s why.
Allowing ourselves to be creative is one of the best ways to handle the incredible energies we’re experiencing right now. When I talk about creativity, I’m referring to such things as making art, writing, sewing, quilting, ceramics, woodworking, etc…. however, I am also referring to the choices we make on a daily basis. Even if you don’t make art, there will be ideas here for you. And, who knows, you might be inspired to begin some sort of art practice. (Yes, coloring in coloring books is an art practice!)
We can approach life with a sense of adventure and creativity, or we can approach it with fear and anxiety. I prefer the former and calling on my creative spirit helps to make this happen.
I’ll be sharing my own ideas as well as those of other creatives. I’ll review books on a variety of related topics, and I’ll suggest ways to bring more creativity into our lives. There might even be a video or two.
To underline my focus, I’m letting go of my weekly Growing Older and Wiser newsletter as well as the weekly videos series called Three or Under. The archives of both are here on Substack and will remain available for those who want to view them.
What will I be writing about? Here’s a few topics…
Infusing our art with joy
Handling mistakes
Wooing the unknown
How to attract new ideas
Embracing uncertainty
Let’s start with the idea of infusing our art with joy. An artist named JeyRamm (https://www.youtube.com/@JeyRamm) suggests thinking about and visualizing creating our art and feeling joy while doing this. Most of us are aware of visualizing what we want to create in our lives, but do we think about applying this to our art? I hadn’t done this but now I do it before I begin to paint or draw. I allow myself to feel the joy of creating while painting or drawing. People tell me they feel joy when they see my creations so I know they are picking up what I’m putting down.
Thanks for being with me on this journey and I hope you’ll stick around to see where this goes. Please share your thoughts in the comment section. See you next time!
Creating with joy, grace, and ease,
Krysta
