The other day I was speaking with a client who was very discouraged about her business. She has been in her counseling practice for several years and although she isn’t failing, she isn’t growing, either. This is causing her to doubt herself, what she does, and whether or not she should give up and try something else, maybe even get a job.
Before she does this, I suggested she try something else. “Begin anew,” I said.
I had her tell me about the first year she was in business. How did she feel? What did she do? She was able to get in touch with her beginner’s energy, that place where she was full of excitement, enthusiasm, ideas, and optimism.
“Now,” I said, “Let’s recreate that and focus that energy toward your current practice.” From there, the ideas began to flow and she was once again full of optimism, excitement, and ideas. We created a plan for moving forward.
If you’re feeling bogged down and lacking enthusiasm in your business, relationship, spiritual practice, hobby or somewhere else in your life, give this a try and see if it brings new energy to your situation. Sometimes we just have to go back to beginner’s mind and apply that freshness to whatever it is we’re doing.
Living in grace and ease,
Krysta

Absolutely. I had to do this when I moved to a small city from a large one five years ago. At 69, I was not getting the responses I've always gotten before, including at another small city--delighted that I might move there. I was initially just shocked. But then realized I didn't have to count on the new city as I'd always offered online classes and then added ZOOM ones. Suddenly, the groups I've worked with were excited about my offerings that others could use who were, initially, trapped by the pandemic and now just don't want to have to drive to a group, or can't do that for one reason or another. The process did come back to the excitement and pleasures of other new starts. I love adding this change to the pluses I've always loved in a career of writing and teaching writing. You can do these from a home base, and they really help to take away any ageism issues in continuing to work. Ariele Huff
