Are you rich?

In the alternative spiritual communities, we hear a lot from various people about being rich and there are many programs available to help us amass a fortune. I find it interesting that usually these programs cost a small fortune and I always snicker to myself, “Well, at least one person is getting wealthy from this program – the teacher!”

       We also hear from a lot of people who are quick to point out that true wealth lies within, we can’t take money and gems with us anyway, so why not just develop our spiritual side and not try to get rich.

       I know one teacher who says he loves working with people who have money because they know money can’t solve their problems. People who don’t have money, he says, believe all they have to do is make more money and their problems will be solved. Of course, there is the student who says, “Well, I want to have a lot of money so I can learn for myself that it doesn’t solve my problems!”

       Of course, the truth lies somewhere in between. We live in a world that operates using money as a system of exchange. It is difficult to do our work without sufficient financial means to care for ourselves and our families while having enough left over to fund our spiritual work. And those who have a large amount of money do have to spend a lot of their time administering and caring for their finances, something many spiritually-oriented folks don’t want to do.

       For me, this issue always comes back to the saying: “Seek first the Kingdom and all these other things will be added.” Seeking to live in the superconscious state of omnipresence is a full-time job. We have to do it moment-by-moment and it is not always easy to remember. When we are able to do this, life flows and we flow with it. This includes the financial side of life as well!

In Psalms 118:24 of the Christian Bible, it is said: Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin. And yet I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”

My brother Lou, who wanted to pursue his career in music but was not able to live his dream full time, used to quote this passage and then add with a snarl: “They don’t have to live as dandelions while waiting to be lilies!”

       When we can learn to live in the Presence, talking and visiting with God as we perceive Him/Her/It to be, remember we are God’s children and entitled to all good things, our lives flow more easily and prosperity unfolds in very natural ways.

       Each of us is rich and only needs to learn how to let this flow from within instead of trying to make it happen from something outside ourselves. And if we have to live as dandelions before morphing into lilies, remember the dandelions are cared for just as much as the lilies.
