Frequently, I am asked how to receive guidance about a particular issue someone is facing. There are many ways to ask for and receive Divine guidance, the most important one being having a daily meditation practice. I have found, however, that there is a different aspect to this that many people ignore, even those who meditate on a regular basis.
“Are you paying attention?” I usually ask! It is not uncommon for people to ask for guidance and then not listen to or embrace the guidance they asked for. Why? Because they don’t like what they hear so figure it must not be the right answer!
A lot of times we are given guidance, but we are so busy talking, working, thinking, planning, or otherwise not present to ourselves that we can’t hear what is being said to us.
When you ask for guidance, be quiet and listen for it to arrive. Pay attention to everything in your life because sometimes the response comes in an unexpected way. Take note of what you see, hear, and feel. Don’t discount something because you don’t like the answer, or it seems too difficult or unpleasant.
Sometimes the response is written on the truck beside you at a red light or on a car’s bumper sticker. A character in a television show or movie might give the guidance. Responses can come in the most marvelous and miraculous ways as well as very directly. We must pay attention.
“Ask and you shall receive” is a true statement. Sometimes we are not in receive mode and miss the answer!

Good one. The fortune cooky fortune on my monitor says: "Attention is the mother of memory." And truly, experts point out that forgetfulness is often caused by never having paid attention to where you set your glasses or keys or why you decided to go to another room, etc.
Very true. Thank you for that wonderful perspective. I've noticed just that with myself as well as for others. I close friend has learned this on his own but has had a very rough road to get to where he is now. Everyday he's grateful for his life and everyday he sees messages that he's not alone and on the right path. He really is an amazing guy too.
