Are we privileged?
We’re used to hearing about white privilege, male privilege, financial privilege and more. It’s important that we’re aware of and grateful for the various privileges we might have. Even those who lack privilege in some way, usually have it in some other way. Here’s the question: are we creatives privileged?
I think we are. Not only are we able to take the time to create whatever it is we might focus on, usually we’re privileged to be able to gather whatever tools we might need. Whether it’s paints or writing instruments – even being able to use the computer at the local library – we live in a culture and at a time where we are privileged to be able to engage in our creative endeavors. I’m grateful for that.
Of course, there are those who don’t have the time or resources we do. I think it’s important for us to find a way to offer a hand up to those who might not have what we do. A great way to do this is to give some creativity-making materials to a local school, senior center, Boys and Girls club, art group, or food bank. These places usually know of people who could make good use of whatever we can donate.
In these unsettled and disappointing times, I continue to believe that when we create we’re sending out great energies that can offset some of the horrible energies floating around in the ethers. Let’s do our parts to help right this limping ship we’re on!
To my readers in the US, have a great 4th of July! Let’e celebrate and treasure our freedoms!
Creating with joy, grace, and ease,
Krysta
